U.S. Industrial Production Flat in October, But Manufacturing Gains


November 16 — U.S. industrial production remained unchanged in October, after falling 0.2% in the previous month, the Federal Reserve Board reported today.

However, the month's performance was skewed down by a sharp drop in utilities output as the result of unseasonably warm temperatures that cut heating demand.

In fact, manufacturing advanced 0.5% versus September, which earlier was upwardly revised to a 0.1% gain.

The latest report provides further evidence that the manufacturing sector is healthy and a recovery is well-established.
