Consumer Sentiment Slips In March


In its mid-month, preliminary reading of consumer sentiment, the Reuters/University of Michigan Survey of Consumers slipped more than a point, to 72.5 from 73.6 last month.

Bloomberg.com reported that a poll of economists had projected a small increase.

The consumers' reading of both current conditions and expectations were down. The expectations index is a leading indicator that currently points to continued economic weakness ahead.

Although the reading for the month was down, survey scores have been rising since hitting a low of less than 60 in February 2009.
