GE Targets Net Zero Energy Home by 2015

Latest News > Green Building News

General Electric has announced that it is developing a, "turn-key product portfolio," that will enable homebuilders and consumers, "to efficiently consume, manage and generate electricity to enable an overall net zero annual energy," by 2015.

The company plans to develop power generation products for solar photovoltaic and residential wind power uses to add to its existing energy-efficient lighting, energy-efficient appliances, many of them Energy Star qualified, and demand response technology, according to the company.

GE plans to be the first manufacturer to offer a full suite of demand response appliances that will work with utility smart meters to help manage energy loads from the electrical grid during periods of peak demand, says the company.

Next year it plans to introduce a, "Home Energy Manager," that will act as the central nervous system of the net zero energy house to work with other technologies to help optimize home energy use.
