Taco Comfort Solutions' Classroom to the World:
The Taco Innovation & Development Center
Taco's Emphasis on Training & Education
Taco was a forerunner in recognizing the value of employee training and education and in organizing training at its workplace. In the early 1990s, after the company reorganized itself, John Hazen White Sr. and his son, John Hazen White, Jr., carved out training space for what became the Taco Learning Center. They needed to upgrade and expand their employees job skills, and they also wanted to assist their employees' own personal development through education, which they provided free of charge.
The Taco Learning Center
Over the following years the Taco Learning Center provided jobs skills training, retraining and personal educational opportunities for Taco's employees. Additionally, the TLC, as it became known, invited plumbers, contractors, engineers and Taco's rep agencies to take training on Taco products and hydronic systems at the facility. The TLC flourished.
From the TLC to the IDC
By 2010 the company recognized that the TLC was no longer adequate in its physical space and lacked the multi-media dimensions that training and education was employing. Despite difficult economic circumstances due to the recession, John Haze White, Jr. nonetheless committed $20 million to rebuild the TLC to contemporary standards for classroom facilities and labs. The resulting two-story building, which connects to the main facility and comes with state-of-the-art features, became the home of the Taco Innovation and Development Center (IDC). It has been a very busy place from the day its doors opened in June 2012.
A Showcase and Living Laboratory
The IDC contains multiple classrooms, labs and meeting rooms as well as new office areas and a library. The building was designed to showcase the latest in energy-saving and sustainable products from Taco and provide "Living Laboratories" of installed and operational products for hand-on demonstrations and teaching purposes.
A Destination for Industry Training
In creating the IDC, Taco Comfort Solutions created a destination where architects, mechanical engineers, HVAC contractors and plumbers and other industry professionals from all over the world can learn about and experience first-hand the latest heating and cooling technologies. This powerful combination of technology and education makes the Taco IDC a truly unique and innovative facility.
